Microneedling is one of our favourite skincare procedures! It’s fast, low in pain, and effective. Plus, the results can be outstanding! Let’s dive in to some of the most asked questions about microneedling.
Microneedling can cause a slight purging after the treatment. It is typically very mild and composed of small whiteheads. It is important to maintain a clean environment during the healing time to minimize breakouts. However, we promise the purge is worth it!
When done correctly, microneedling will not cause scarring. However, when done incorrectly or by an untrained professional, microneedling can cause scarring or other adverse reactions. In addition, if microneeedling is performed on someone who is prone to keloids, there is a potential for keloid scar production. Be sure to let your provider know if you are prone to keloids at your appointment.
Microneedling is not indicated for the treatment of acne. However, it is extremely effective in treating depressed acne scars due to thecollagen formation it creates.
Microneedling does not cause fat loss when done correctly. The needles are penetrated superficially and without heat, so there is no risk for facial fat loss.
You may wash your face 24 hours after your treatment. During the first 24 hours, keep a very clean environment. Your provider may give you a cream or ointment to apply during the first 24 hour period.
Microneedling gives long term results. However, collagen loss is always occurring. We are able to significantly slow down the rate at which collagen loss occurs over the long period with modalities such as microneedling, but nothing can completely stop the aging process.
