Morpheus8 Case Study

If you’re any bit interested in skincare treatments, you’ve probably heard about the Morpheus8 treatment by now, or another one of the many forms of Radiofrequency (RF) microneedling.

RF microneedling devices have exploded recently in the medical aesthetics industry, and for good reason. They are highly effective! Morpheus8 by InMode is a top-of-the-line treatment used for skin tightening, acne scars, fat remodeling, and more.

How Does Morpheus8 Work?

Below is a quick video summarizing the technology.

In this treatment, the needles are insulated with silicone all the way down, leaving only the point exposed. This protects the upper layers of the skin from the intense RF energy pulses, so that they don’t absorb too much heat. That means there is less trauma overall to the upper layers of the skin and a faster healing time! That’s what makes Morpheus8 superior to other devices.

Our primary goal was to treat acne scarring and enlarged pores with Morpheus8.

She also wanted to achieve some skin tightening, to prevent signs of minor skin laxity starting as she enters her late 20’s.

Enlarged pores and minor acne scars were the main concern with Morpheus8 treatment.

We completed the treatments under topical anesthetic only. The pain level is moderate, but local anesthetic and Penthrox were additional pain management techniques that were offered. It is often compared it to getting a tattoo. Yes, it hurts a bit, but healing damaged skin is not necessarily always a comfortable spa-like experience!

Here is what you can expect during the Morpheus8 healing period.

The textured grid-like patterns seen on the face is caused by the resurfacing tip. The resurfacing tip is used on those with textural concerns as the needles are only 0.5mm long to target the most superficial layer of this skin to smooth it out. When the resurfacing tip is used, healing time is slightly longer. I still had faint texture marks for about 2.5 weeks after the procedure. However, they were only noticeable when the light hit it just right!

I ended up having 3 treatments spaced 4 weeks apart. Each treatment used more ‘aggressive’ settings as I was able to tolerate so we could make the most out of my treatments. I did not really notice results until about 4 weeks after my second session! That’s because the collagen stimulation takes abut 4-6 weeks to occur, so the idea is that after this cycle occurs once, the process is re-initiated with each treatment. Final results are expected about 4-6 weeks after the last session. That’s a 4-5 month process!

It was worth the wait.

After the skin was definitely more plump and ‘springy.’ This would be because of the collagen and elastin that has been created! The small area under the chin was tighter, and the entire lower cheek area felt and looked like it had been pulled tight up towards the ear. The skin was also extremely smooth to the touch. Did we mention it also reduces acne? That’s because RF energy shrinks and eventually destroys the sebaceous glands that are responsible for causing acne! Besides the post-treatment acne purge, the skin has been incredibly clear and she did not have her usual hormonal breakouts at that time of the month!

When Morpheus8 is used on deeper depths, a double pulse of RF energy is used. This is done on the lower cheeks (jowls) and under the chin to causes fat remodelling (the fat cells are squished so they lay flatter) which is what causes the jawline conturing effect. Here are the before and afters!

Before and after 3 Morpheus8 treatments

There was still have the slightest residual texture from the resurfacing tip on the lower cheeks, which will resolve. This texture can be present for a few weeks after the treatments when resurfacing is done.

In conclusion, we would definitely recommend Morpheus8 to anyone looking to treat skin texture, sagging/lax skin, submental fat, undereye bags, or just to have a total anti-aging treatment.

The pro’s: IT WORKS extremely well, and it has a short downtime!

The con’s: it’s definitely an investement, there is some pain involved, there is a potential post-treatment acne purge, and it takes a while to see results.

In our opinion, the cons are definitely worth the benefits!
